Seeley & Sandoval Lab

Bariatric Surgery | Metabolism | Gut-Brain

The Randy Seeley and Darleen Sandoval laboratories are located in shared space at the University of Michigan Ann Arbor.

The Seeley Laboratory is interested in:

  • Identifying the molecular mechanisms underpinning the potent effects of bariatric surgery on weight and metabolism
  • Studying the actions of various peripheral hormones in the CNS that serve to regulate food intake, body weight, and the regulation of circulating fuels
  • Developing novel surgical strategies in the treatment of metabolic disease

The Sandoval Laboratory is interested in:

  • The role of intestinal vs. pancreatic sources of GLP-1 on glucose homeostasis
  • Weight loss-independent metabolic responses to bariatric surgery
  • GLP-1 neurophysiology
